art journal…remembering the heroes

“To endure is greater than to dare; to tire out hostile fortune; to be daunted by no difficulty; to keep heart when all have lost it; to go through intrigue spotless; to forego even ambition when the end is gained – who can say this is not greatness?”- William Makepeace Thackeray
I took this photograph inside FDNY Tenhouse which is directly across the street from the World Trade Center. This tattered flag was pulled from the destruction and debris of Ground Zero and currently hangs over FF Calvanese and FF Morabito’s lockers as a symbol of enduring freedom…
Special thanks to FF John Morabito for allowing my children and I to see greatness, pure grace and heroism in the truest sense of the word…

Cool piece & your photos are memorable, too. All I could do creatively after 9-11 was paint skies with a single plane flying through the clouds. It helps to work out our feelings with images. Thanks for sharing

chacha…thank you; very moving experience to be at Ground Zero just before the 5 year anniversary.
Kel, is it totally wrong of me to think that he is one spunky firefighter. Cute-oh!
What an incredible story these heroes have, huh?
