Image Transfer with Acrylic Paint & Gel Medium
Photo Art fascinates me…I’m always looking for new ways to transfer, alter, modify, create, etc. something new. Image transfers are simply magical…no matter how many times you do them, there’s something exciting about the process of unveiling an image. I color copied the image above and transfered onto a printed transparency with a mix of Golden soft gel medium and acrylic paint. I love way the blue paint sketches itself around the birds…
1. Apply gel medium/acrylic paint mixture to front of transparency; place color or inkjet copy onto gel/paint mixture face down. Press gently with fingers; rub out air bubbles. Set aside to dry (because the image is transferred onto transparency, it will take longer to dry than a paper transfer).
2. Spritz back of image with water; gently peel/rub paper. Repeat water/rubbing until you have a clear image. If you havent’ done this technique before, have patience! It can be a bit messy…but the final outcome is worth it!
3. Mount gold foil on back of transparency. Scratch and distress foil with a craft knife. Remove areas of foil if you want to add another layer of color!
